Congratulations, you have found the flaw that underlies all generalisations and pre-judgements. However, I must point out the fact that this is in fact a JOKE, and should therefore be eligible for some forgiveness for the aformentioned crimes, since it's far funnier to simplify the statement than it is to write "To all Americans who don't know who Hugh Laurie is but do watch the TV show 'House', or who are unaware or mistaken about Mr Laurie's nationality: Yes, this is House, and he's English."
