I know it may not be 'correct' to say so, but as a High School teacher I always punish misbehaviour in a socially-aware manner. It's all to do with the way they've been brought up. It makes perfect sense to me to hand out a lighter range of punishments to wealthier, middle class kids- their parents' shame & disapproval is usually harsh enough punishment. Poorer/lower orders of society that couldn't care less will always need to be hit harder to realise the extent of their guilt.

How does simple reasoning help? Say, you remember the following two facts, 1775 is big in American history, and same goes for 1861... one for Civil War and another for Revolutionary War, now a little reasoning would get you right on them...

After I got my Masters in common sense I toured the land hoping to achieve social conciousness. I tried to save oiled birds after the oil spill & succeeded in scaring them off & trampling on their eggs. I taught myself Latin till I chipped a bone in my Backus Bonus. I stood as a speaker for politics - but they were all egomaniacs & seldom told the truth. I tried the CIA, but they were worse than any criminal. I gave up on society & decided to live alone. Their education had brainwashed me away.

I do agree that internet behavior is rather inappropriate at times, but I believe that's why it should be the job of the parents to teach their children those basic manners, patience & self discipline, so that they do know what is proper classroom etiquette.
