"Sweetie", even by buying animals that were born in captivity, it supports the exotic animal trade that IS taking these animals from their habitat. And sugar gliders are not domesticated.

Sweetie, they are born into captivity, not captured and caged, they form strong bonds with their humans, live longer, and how do you think any other animal was domesticated. Dogs, cats, hamsters, guiny pigs, and other animals weren't just born domesticated. Is it wrong to own any animal because at one point they were wild? A goon owner means a happy animal, dog or sugar glider.

Ahem..Read through my comment please before you comment arrogantly. Did I say we have ANY right to take any wild animal as a pet? In most all states, you must go through a LOT of licensing to get any exotic pets. This is as it should be. There should be more check-ups on license holders to, to ensure the well-being of the captive animals. HOWEVER, ask anyone who knows anything about exotic animals. Banning them ultimately leads to extinction.

You absolutely do not have the right to take any wild animal that you want as your pet. They have the right to live their life in the wild, not in a cage in your house.

The sugar glider has been banned in California. Please, nobody believe this was for the animals good. This is to take away our rights. Ahem, excuse me government, but what business is it of yours to say what we do with our exotic pets? Yes, ownership does need to be regulated. Is banning the answer? NO! How about more check-ups on the license-holders? Just another example of the government taking away every right they can from us. Free country? Yeah, right.

Three articles you should read before deciding to keep wild animals as pets. Also just look up "Chimp Attack" or "Neoteny" A few years ago we had an elderly neighbour lady very badly mauled by a neighbour's pet hybrid. Hundreds of dogs around and no attacks from any of them!
