I prefer the warmth and precision of Damrau's coloratura, but agree that Dessay's performance appears more effortless where Diana's is sometimes a bit labored. Both are stellar, IMO.

fairly well done but not close to damrau's. i believe her voice doesn't really suit the aria, it's not big and powerful enough, and i also think that the coloratura isn't as clear and her F6 notes aren't as clear but powerful like damrau's.

Diana Damrau's version is winded and belted. Dessay sings even the hardest parts with ease and sings them as apposed to belting them out as fast as she can before running out of breath. She also sings with more volume. If Damrau had to sing this with a bad, slow conductor she would pass out from oxygen depletion.

Her interpretation is interesting. She's going for the sympathetic mother approach. Looks like her interpretation of the character is a mother terrified about losing her daughter to the influence of someone she hates.

I loved this interpretation of Dessay, very subtle, very elegant acting! Damrau is perfect in the sense of reflecting the dark power in the cosmic duality of dark and light, but Dessay and this production, according to me outperforms the production starring Damrau, with those cries of a "caring" mother who tries to portray the consequences of her threat. Excellent!!!

The aria is beautiful but I have to agree the acting is not there. I have always felt menaced and intimidated but not this time.
