Even the man playing the violin at 8:58 is trying not to laugh.

I'm no Opera Officianado, however I think it's fair to say Ms.XXX was a triple fail. That sounded horrible, even made more evident after hearing everyone else do it so beautifully. I think the uploader put that in there to get a kick out of viewers and see if we were really paying attention. Well done

Mrs. XXXX sounded like a hen trying to lay her eggs. BTW, did Sumi Jo make some improvisation around 04:20 !?

ok, who resurrected Florence Foster Jenkins? we had a deal, she should never return from the dead. Now we have a problem. thank you! ._.

All VERY VERY good! Except whoever the last girl to do that aria was. Looked like she in a recording studio or something. UGH!

Indeed, Ms. Battle is superb in pretty much anything she attempts... Mozart, Bel Canto, Baroque, Renaissance, even Japanese art songs, however... hers is a voice type unsuited for the Königin... Popp & (a favorite of mine) Sumi Jo were good, but too timid for this vengeance aria. As far as I'm concerned, not that Damrau sucks but, no one can top Edda Moser when it comes to this role! To sing the praises of Damrau & take no notice of Moser makes me so violently angry!

I used to be able to do this once upon at time, but when I turned 14 I lost it

Actually, Mrs XXXX in this video is doing an impersonation of a wildly popular opera singer named Florence Foster Jenkins. There are some of her recordings on youtube.

You forgot one of the most important performers of this opera... Lucia Popp... She is probably the best...

Diana Damrau's rendition of this most difficult aria is as close to perfection as it gets. I would love to have heard Kathleen Battle attempt it but I could not find it.

Sorry, I don't follow your thought.... who is the "owner" and what did he write to Mrs. XXXX
snowy9431 - 16.5.2012 15:12:25
I don't know who that is, but the owner wrote Mrs.XXX
davtra - 16.5.2012 5:26:46
I meant the artistic/music director :)
Randidan - 16.5.2012 4:15:19
Yep!! She finally got it together!
Randidan - 16.5.2012 4:13:52
Yeah! Who??????
Randidan - 16.5.2012 4:13:09
I agree! -- it amazes me because 30 years ago you couldn't have found that many who could make it thru that piece so well... It's not written for the way moderns singers perform... [XXXX excepted, of course!]
Randidan - 16.5.2012 4:10:25
Au contraire, mon cher! Conductors have killed the Art of singing opera with their egoistic cult. They are responsible only for keeping the time and supporting the singers...
Randidan - 16.5.2012 4:02:07
No, definitely not -- If you hear her, you'll never mistake her for anyone else...
Randidan - 16.5.2012 3:57:35
God, no!! The wobble in her shrieking high notes would kill off an entire population! Talk about "weapons of mass destruction!!"
